It's mid-spring and farmers markets are starting to crop up around the Chicagoland area. While some may not be open yet, by mid-June most markets will be in full swing for shoppers who are looking for fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers.

These days, many markets offer much more than leafy greens: meats, eggs and cheeses, flowers and baked goods, as well as honey, artisanal pastas and even homemade salsas and sauces. The markets are also a great way to support local, sustainable agriculture. Besides, there's something enriching about meeting the people who actually grow the food you bring home to your family.

Eden Place Farmers Market

Please be so kind as to add our community farmers market to your website, Thank You. Eden Place Farmers Market 43rd Place & Shields Ave. Every Saturday, now till Oct 9th 2010 8:00am - 3:00pm For info call 773-624-8686 BASIC INFO: Eden Place Nature Center is a not-for-profit community based nature preserve and educational center in Chicago's Fuller Park neighborhood. For 35 years, the 3.5 acre site that is now Eden Place was an illegal dumping ground filled with contaminated materials such as lead and asbestos. With the hard work of community members and volunteers this site was transformed into an urban oasis and biodiversified nature preserve. Eden Place now hosts a wetland, a community garden, a children’s garden, a native prairie, a perennial garden, a composting education station, a greenhouse, a woodland, an urban farm, a Food Network “Good Food Garden,” and a barn with egg-laying ducks and chickens. Eden Place is open to the public year-round and offers a wide range of educational nature-based programs including community festivals, school field trips, volunteer service days, workshops, and a summer teen apprenticeship program. Eden Place provides services to help residents address the environmental problems that plague the health of their families and their local environment, and also provides a safe space for families to connect with nature and with their community. Location: 4417 S. Stewart Ave. Chicago, IL 60609
