Guide to Suburban Chicago Farmer's Markets

Find a Market Near You in our Listing

The surrounding suburbs are full of farmers markets that have local fresh produce which, we found, you can't always rely upon your local grocer to carry. Some farmers prefer the suburbs over the city since the drive may not be as far for them, depending on where their farm is located.

We compiled a good list of markets, but may not have gotten them all. If you know of a market in your community that hasn't been listed, please share on our comment board.

You might be surprised to find a terrific market with lots of local character that you didn't know was so close to home. Check out our interactive Suburban Chicago Farmers Market Map (for our city of Chicago version, click here) where we have detailed markers for each farmers market.  Just click on a marker to see the details for that location.  You can also zoom in, and scroll around.  Have fun with it!

Oak Lawn

Oak Lawn's farmer's market really is nice. it has quite a variety this yr. lots of good veggies and flowers. hand-made beautiful purses from Ireland plus jewelry. also they have hot dogs, bagels, lemonade and water sold so the kiddies can enjoy. most stuff is reasonable. you can get pampered chef stuff there too plus Watkin's. all in all, it is a nice market, lots of parking, and a variety.

Map does not match list -- leaves out PF and so. burbs.

Well, some of them show up on the map, but not on the list....yes, there is life south of I-80, folks. Park Forest has one of the best (and oldest) farmer's market's...every saturday through october, 7 a.m. to noon or so...it's the kind with real (and organic) produce, not just a bunch of crafts and avon products (though there is a bit of that too.) Best offering: fabulous bunches of gladiolus, in every color (even green and two-tone varieties)...at the height of the season there are literally 30 or more colors to choose from. lot's of nice native illinois perennial plant dealers too, and some great eat-it-there or t'go food too (designer tamales and comfort bbq / porkchop sandwiches and the like). there's one amish vender, as well. the bread and fancy cheese people are there usually too (though they tend to miss a sat if there's a big fest). crete, il, also has one on saturday. that's bit further south. there is also one on thursdays in the parking lot at governer's state university..it's not on the map... (off cicero before you get to monee...it's technically university park)... this site needs a bit of south suburban updating.

Surburban Farmer's Market

Tinley Park has it's Farmer's Market every Saturday from 7am to Noon. It's open from June 5th to September 25th. It carries different fruit and vegetable vendors, Amish bakery and butter, fresh baked breads, flowers, purses, honey, breakfast and lunch vendors, t-shirt vendor, Avon vendor, crafts of various types. They also have a face painting clown, and a Bouncee for kids to jump in. I'm sure I left some stuff out, so go check it out! It's located in Downtown Tinley Park next to the Train Station in Zabrocki Plaza: 173rd & Oak Park Ave
