Nonprofit Development/Fundraising Associate Contract

Openlands is seeking a creative, hard-working, and energetic fundraising professional to fulfill the contract position of Development Associate. A commitment to conservation, an understanding of our programs, and a strong professional fundraising background are essential.
The Development Associate will work 60 hours per month (approximately 15 hours per week) with a retainer fee through 12/31/10 (may be renewable). Work will be conducted at our offices in downtown Chicago. The Development Associate will assist with:
* Grant research and writing
* Special event planning; our 2010 events, including a wine talk at Bin 36, a music concert at the Spertus Institute in the fall, a tour of Chicago’s City Hall rooftop gardens, a family event at one of our community gardens; and numerous events at our signature project, the Openlands Lakeshore Preserve.

Minimum Qualifications:
Four to six years of fundraising experience mandatory; BA; exceptional planning and organizational skills; strong interpersonal skills; excellent communication skills, written and verbal; demonstrated commitment to protecting the region’s natural resources; and an understanding of conservation issues.
