Max oversees Environment Illinois program work while directing its Global Warming, Clean Water and Environmental Health Programs. Max led Environment Illinois’ successful campaigns for a historic 90 percent reduction in Illinois’ coal-fired power plant mercury pollution and to stop BP’s expansion of toxic dumping in Lake Michigan.

His current campaigns include: repowering Illinois with clean energy, restoring rollbacks of the Clean Water Act, and eliminating the use toxic industrial chemicals that accumulate in the Great Lakes or endanger human health and the environment.

As Environment Illinois’ Open Space advocate, Max has campaigned for protections and funding for Illinois parks and natural areas. Prior to joining Environment Illinois’ staff, Max served as a policy aide in the Oregon House of Representatives. Max is a graduate of Iowa’s Grinnell College.
