Green & Green
Rachel's Top Choices For Greening Your Week

The term “green” is starting to pop up nearly everywhere and we’re all starting to realize that we must be thoughtful about when we use it and what we use it to describe.  As an avid reader of ReadyMade magazine, I noticed that this month they did their “green issue,” only this year, they chose not to call it green.  While it still had great info on how to make changes in your life to reduce your carbon footprint (the cornerstone of Seattle Climate Action Now), I was struck by the dropping of the term “green.”

But before we get ahead of ourselves and completely toss the word “green” from our vernacular, there are two awesome opportunities that can only be described, as, well…..green!

Green Festival
This weekend Seattle will host the first ever Green Festival, which brings together local and national socially responsible businesses and environmental, social justice and community organizations.  Hope you can join us there!  Click here to download a free coupon to the festival!

Green Up

Green Up is Seattle City Light's voluntary green power program for customers. By enrolling in Green Up, customers demonstrate their support of renewable energy by purchasing clean, climate-friendly Pacific Northwest wind energy for a portion of their electricity use.

Green Up customers make voluntary payments on their electricity bill to cover the slightly higher cost of integrating renewable energy into the grid. Residential customers may purchase green power in increments of 25%, 50% or 100% of their electricity use for $3, $6 or $12 per month.

Join Green Up now with a one-year commitment and we'll send you an organic, Fair Trade certified Theo Chocolate bar and a two-for-one admission coupon for the Theo Chocolate factory tour located in the Fremont neighborhood in Seattle.  Existing Green Up customers can increase their contributions and also receive this gift. This special offer is good through July 31, 2008 or while supplies last.  Click here to sign up online.

Cheers!
